Flood Insurance

Flood insurance protects your home from water coming through the side of your dwelling. Normal home insurance excludes this and depending on where you live, flood insurance may be mandatory by your mortgage company. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) oversees flood insurance and creates the maps of high and low risk flood zones.
Types of Flood Insurance
FEMA
Guaranteed by the federal government to pay damages caused by flood to your property up to the predetermined amount with your carrier.
Private Flood
Like other private insurance, private flood insurance is guaranteed by the contract of the private carrier. Typically, private flood policies are cheaper than those that go through the FEMA program.
